See Aubrey Plaza Stalk Instagram Obsession in ‘Ingrid Goes West’

ROLLING STONE – Social media stalking turns into full-blown stalking in the comedy Ingrid Goes West. The film stars Aubrey Plaza as Ingrid Thorburn, an oddball who becomes obsessed with Elizabeth Olsen’s character Taylor Sloane.

Horror flicks, hot docs and a long-awaited hip-hop biopic – your alternative guide to what to see at a theater near you this summer

In the new trailer, Thorburn closely follows Instagram influencer Sloane’s Instagram posts. Thorburn soon begins to shape her own life around the hashtag-slinging, selfie-loving Sloane, to the point that Thorburn moves to California to be closer to Sloane.

Thorburn goes so far as to kidnap Sloane’s dog as a means to befriend her (it works), dyes her hair blonde like Sloane’s and even adopts her laugh. Her wacky ploy seems to be working as the two become friends, until Sloane’s brother (portrayed by Billy Magnussen) catches on to Thorburn’s ruse.

While the plot seems pretty creepy on paper, in the clip Plaza and Olsen’s hilarious and punchy deliveries keep things primarily light and even strangely endearing. “I’m not a psychopath,” Thorburn insists. “I just want to be her friend.”

Directed by Matt Spicer, who co-wrote Ingrid Goes West with David Branson Smith, the film won the 2017 Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance Film Festival. Ingrid Goes West opens in theaters on August 11th.

Press: ‘Wind River’ Interview at Cannes

DEADLINE – This is the third year in a row that Taylor Sheridan has a film in Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival. But the Sicario and Hell Or High Water writer is making his Croisette debut as director with Wind River. An unfinished version of the timely thriller centered around the continued injustice toward Native Americans premiered at Sundance in January. Its final cut premiered in Un Certain Regard here to a lengthy standing ovation.

The story follows a game tracker (Jeremy Renner) and an FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who go on a manhunt for the murderer of a Native American teenage girl on Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation.

Deadline’s Pete Hammond has said the movie “features the best Jeremy Renner performance in years.” And, in the video above, Renner says this is a meaningful film for him. “I’m deeply connected to it… and you know, I don’t have to talk about just a bow and arrow,” he laughs, referencing his Hawkeye role in the Avengers movies. He adds, seriously, “I can talk about something that does mean something to me as a man, as a father, as an actor, a lot of things.”

Elizabeth Olsen Admits She ‘Has a Hard Time With the Pressure to Look Cool’

ELLE – “They can make me have a little vertigo when I have to go on stage, so I just finally decided to take them off instead of trying.”

Elizabeth Olsen is explaining why she kicked off her heels at the Cannes premiere of her latest movie Wind River. Sitting with her on a secluded patio tucked away behind La Croisette–the main oceanfront drag of Cannes–Olsen looks as fresh as a daisy in an elegant printed pantsuit, although she must be exhausted. The movie premiere the night before didn’t even start until 11pm, which is when we saw Olsen take the stage clutching those heels in her hand. By 2am she was still working–meeting and greeting at the movie after-party, even though another super-early start beckoned, followed by another full day of non-stop interviews and events. (She took her shoes off eventually after that appearance, too.)
