Trivia

(Related to Elizabeth or whole movie/cast only)
• Tom Holland was not allowed to read the script for this film, since he revealed too many secrets for Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). In one of the promotional videos for the movie, several of its cast members are in an interrogation room refusing to reveal any spoilers, and Holland's mouth is conspicuously taped shut.
• Security for the filming at Durham Cathedral was so tight that not even the Cathedral wardens were allowed access inside.
• Filming at Durham Cathedral involved moving almost all of the pews to make room for the film sets. After filming on Saturday night, the sets had to be moved and the pews replaced for Sunday services. On Monday, everything was changed around again to complete filming.
• In a NY Times interview, when asked about how the script was written to accommodate the large cast, co-writer Stephen McFeely said, "Not every scene can be 25 people in a room. You're going to have to make kickball teams and then have a tournament."
• According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the Avengers are expected to have a "shakeup" in their team lineup between Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and the untitled Avengers sequel (2019).
• Was originally titled 'Avengers: Infinity War Part I', with the next movie titled 'Avengers: Infinity War Part II'. In late July 2016, Marvel Studios announced that this film would simply be known as Avengers: Infinity War, while Part II was initially referred to as Untitled Avengers (2019) film. The final title of Untitled Avengers Movie (2019) was not revealed until much later because it contained a spoiler for Part I.

• Marvel Studios made the hashtag #ThanosDemandsYourSilence to help stop spoilers.

• This film, along with Untitled Avengers Movie (2019), was entirely filmed with digital 2D IMAX cameras, specially customized versions of the ARRI Alexa 65 optimized for IMAX. Captain America: Civil War (2016) was the first film to incorporate the new cameras, but only for its airport fight sequence. This made Avengers: Infinity War (2018) the first non-documentary film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras in an exclusive open-matte aspect ratio of 1.90:1. Unfortunately, the standard theatrical and home video releases crop the film down to the regular widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1.
• The films’ release dates were revealed while Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) was still in production.
• (at 36:37:00) These scenes between Wanda and Vision were actually shot on location in Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburgh was chosen because the filmmakers wanted a romantic private place for the two of them to build their relationship that could turn scary and gothic very quickly.
• This film is based on the American comic book series called ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’ first published by Marvel Comics in 1991, but takes its name from the sequel comic book series called ‘The Infinity War’, which its self has a sequel series ‘The Infinity Crusade’.
• This film is in Chapter Seven of Phase Three in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
• The filmmakers wanted to explore the idea that these heroes are willing to sacrifice their own lives, but when are they willing to sacrifice somebody else?
• The film crossed worldwide Box Office collection of $1 Billion in a record time of 11 days after its release. This is the sixth Marvel movie to make this much.
• All three Marvel Cinematic Universe phases have referenced either an Infinity Stone or the Infinity Gauntlet with two stones making their debut within each phase. The Space and Mind Stone first appeared during Phase 1, though they were not revealed to be Infinity Stones until Phase 2.
• The filmmakers had a phrase to describe characters meeting and interacting for the first time that they called “strange alchemy.” The conflict of personalities between Tony Stark and Doctor Strange is a perfect example of this.
• Longest Marvel Cinematic Universe film as of April 2018 at 156 minutes, following Captain America: Civil War which was 147 minutes.
• The filmmakers wanted to show that Tony knows Wanda is on the run with Steve, Vision has been in a relationship with Wanda, and he has been okay with that. They wanted to make it clear that Tony has not been actively seeking to bring Steve, Natasha, Sam, and Wanda to justice.
• Unlike the previous two “team-up” movies that Marvel has made, no new heroes are introduced in this film. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision were introduced in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and Spider-Man and Black Panther made their first appearances in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ All the heroes from ‘The Avengers’ appeared in earlier films.
• There are close to 3,000 shots in the film, with almost 2,900 of those being VFX shots.
• The filmmakers thought it was important to remind viewers what each stone does and show it visually, which is why when Thanos obtains a stone he usually employs it in the following scene.
• Wanda was given her power from the Mind Stone, as discovered in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and she is consequently the only person who can destroy it.
• Filming was undertaken in Durham Cathedral on May 1, 2017.
• In May 2018 – One of three Marvel superhero movies in theaters at the same time: “Black Panther”, “Deadpool 2” and “Avengers: Infinity War”.

• There is an EXTENDED scene that shows more of Wanda and Vision trying to escape the Black Order.
• In the scene where Scarlet Witch and Vision sees the attack in New York, she’s standing out side a shop in Edinburgh. You can clearly see a sign inside the store that reads ‘we will deep fry your Kebab’.

• Main character death count: 16
• As of the release of Thor: Ragnarok (2017), five of the six Infinity Stones have surfaced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Space Stone (also known as the Tesseract) was first revealed in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), and now resides with Loki. The Mind Stone, which was housed in Loki’s staff until Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), is now in the possession of Vision. The Power Stone, first seen in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), is on Xandar, under protection of the Nova Corps. The Reality Stone (also known as the Aether) was first seen in Thor: The Dark World (2013), and was placed in the care of the Collector. With the destruction of the Collector’s Vault in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), its whereabouts are unclear. The fifth and final known stone, the Time Stone (also known as the Eye of Agamotto), was revealed in Doctor Strange (2016), and is under his protection in Kamar-Taj. The whereabouts of the sixth stone, the Soul Stone, is revealed by Gamora to Thanos in Infinity War to be on the planet Vormir.
• The post credits scene features Nick Fury and Maria Hill and teases the future involvement of Captain Marvel.
• Some shots of the trailers were digitally altered to avoid spoilers. For example, some infinity stones are removed from Thanos’s glove during the last battle. Or for not showing the destroyed Iron Man’s suit a digital jacket was added to Robert Downey Jr.. Also the Hulk is shown in a final shot with Captain America, Black Panther and Widow, but Hulk only fights in the beginning of the film.
• Screen time for each major character; Thanos – 29 Minutes Gamora – 19:30 Minutes Tony Stark / Iron Man – 18 Minutes Thor – 14:30 Minutes Dr. Stephen Strange – 11:30 Minutes Peter Quill / Star-Lord – 10:15 Minutes Vision – 9:45 Minutes Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch – 9 Minutes Dr. Bruce Banner / The Hulk – 8:45 Minutes Peter Parker / Spider-Man – 7:30 Minutes Steve Rogers – 6:45 Minutes Rocket – 6 Minutes Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow – 5 Minutes Drax – 4:45 Minutes Mantis – 4:45 Minutes Ebony Maw – 4 Minutes Proxima Midnight – 3:45 Minutes Cull Obsidian – 3:45 Minutes Corvus Glaive – 3:30 Minutes King T’Challa / Black Panther – 3:30 minutes Groot – 3:15 Minutes Nebula – 3:15 Minutes Okoye – 3:15 Minutes Loki – 3:15 Minutes Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes / War Machine – 3 Minutes Eitri – 2:45 Minutes Wong – 2:45 Minutes Sam Wilson / Falcon – 2:15 Minutes James “Bucky” Barnes / White Wolf – 2 minutes Pepper Potts – 1:30 Minutes The Stonekeeper – 1:30 Minutes Princess Shuri – 1 Minutes M’Baku – 1 minute Secretary Thaddeus Ross – 1 Minute Nick Fury – 1 Minute Maria Hill 0:45 – Minutes Heimdall 0:45 -Minutes Taneleer Tivan / The Collector 0:45 Minutes Ned Leeds – 0:15 Minutes
• When the Avengers regroup at HQ in New York, Colonel James Rhodes (War Machine) was the only one who had been there the whole time. This comes to show that, since the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), Rhodey was the only member of the Avengers to remain loyal to the Sokovia Accords – Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) was excommunicated for helping Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes escape the Berlin Airport, Tony Stark (Iron Man) quit the Avengers after assisting Cap and Bucky in locating Zemo, and Vision went into exile alongside Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) because of his emotional attachment to her. When the Avengers regroup in this film, however, even Rhodey was willing to turn against the Accords to assist his former teammates in the greater cause.
• It was confirmed by the Russo brothers that what happened in Captain America: Civil War (2016) will still continue in this movie, where the teams will still be divided until the time has come where they must stop Thanos.
• All major character deaths in chronological order: Heimdall – Stabbed by Thanos. Loki – Choked to death by Thanos. Gamora – Thrown to her death by Thanos is exchange for the Soul Stone. Vision – Killed by Wanda (Scarlet Witch) when she destroyed the Mind Stone. Vision (again) – Killed by Thanos when he ripped the Mind Stone out of his forehead after he reversed time with the Time Stone. The following characters were killed when Thanos wipes out half the universe with the Infinity Guantlet having acquired all 6 Infinity Stones: Bucky Barnes (White Wolf), T’Challa (Black Panther), Groot, Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), Sam Wilson (Falcon), Mantis, Drax the Destroyer, Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Dr Stephen Strange, Peter Parker (Spider-Man).
• This film is inspired by the following Marvel Comics storylines: The Infinity Gauntlet (Thanos forms the Infinity Gauntlet and becomes all-powerful), The Thanos Imperative (the Guardians of the Galaxy take on Thanos), and Infinity (the Avengers and Inhumans team up to battle Thanos). The Marvel Comics storyline of the same name, however, involved a battle between superheroes for the Infinity Gauntlet, and has nothing to do with this story. This battle happened after the events of The Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Crusade, where in the Infinity Gauntlet, Adam Warlock and his Infinity Watch formed by Gamora, Moondragon, Drax the Destructor, and Pip the Troll, allied forces with Thanos in order to defeat Magus, Warlock’s evil side, who was looking to reunite the Infinity Gauntlet to be all-powerful and in the Infinity Crusade, Adam Warlock, the Avengers, Thanos, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and Silver Surfer unite to defeat the Goddess, Warlock’s good side, who was looking to convert the entire universe to worship her and control everyone.
• Characters having to sacrifice their loved ones include: 1) Star-Lord being forced to shoot Gamora in order to deny Thanos information about the Soul Stone. 2) Thanos having to kill Gamora in order to be granted the Soul Stone. 3) Scarlett Witch being forced to kill Vision in order to destroy the Mind Stone.
• The filmmakers always knew they wanted to play past the snap in the film, the idea being that if they ended the film ON the snap, it would be a cliffhanger. Instead, the film ends on tragedy and emotion. The film has a full and complete ending, even if it isn’t what audiences are used to.
• The original Avengers never fully re-unite as a team in this film.
• Thanos’ mass genocide at the end affects mainly later Avenger members, like the Winter Soldier, Falcon, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and the Scarlett Witch; the original Avengers members (Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Black Widow) are still alive, with only Hawkeye unaccounted for as he does not appear in the movie. In contrast, the original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy are all wiped out with the exception of Rocket (and Gamora, who had already died earlier).
• Exactly half of the heroes credited at the top of the official movie poster (8 out of 16) still alive at the time of the snap, die after the snap.
• The villains repeatedly threaten the heroes with murder of their associates: 1) Thanos threatens to kill Thor if Loki does not hand over the tesseract/space stone 2) The black order offer to spare Scarlett Witch if Vision surrenders and gives up the mind stone. 3) Thanos tortures and threatens to kill Nebula if Gamora does not reveal the location of the soul stone. 4) As recounted by Eitri, he was forced to forge the infinity gauntlet by Thanos under the threat of having his fellow dwarves murdered. 5) Although not explicitly asked to do so by Thanos, Dr Strange gives up the time stone in exchange for Tony Stark’s life.
Quotes

Vision: No, we have to destroy it. I've been giving a good deal of thought to this entity in my head, about its nature. Also, its composition. I think if it were exposed to a sufficiently powerful energy source, something very similar to its own signature, perhaps...molecular integrity will fail. Wanda Maximoff: Yeah, and you with it. I'm not having this conversation. Vision: Eliminating the stone is the only way to be certain Thanos can't get it. Wanda Maximoff: That's too high a price. Vision: Only you have the power to pay it.

Wanda Maximoff: Can you do it? Shuri: Yes. But there are more than two trillion neurons here. One misalignment could cause a cascade of circuit failures.

Vision: The blade. It stopped me from phasing. Wanda Maximoff: Is that even possible? Vision: It isn't supposed to be. My systems are failing. I'm beginning to think... we should have stayed in bed.

Wanda: I just feel you.

Filming

Principal photography began on January 23, 2017, under the working title Mary Lou, at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, with Trent Opaloch as director of photography. Infinity War, along with its sequel, were shot using IMAX/Arri 2D cameras, thus marking the first time that a Hollywood feature film was shot entirely with IMAX digital cameras. In early February, Marvel confirmed the involvement of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, and Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the film. Additional filming took place in Scotland beginning in February 2017. The filming occurred in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Scottish Highlands, with studio work taking place at Wardpark Studios in Cumbernauld. Filming also began at Durham Cathedral in Durham, England in early May 2017. In late June 2017, filming occurred in Downtown Atlanta, as well as Atlanta's Central Park in early July, before moving to Queens, New York in the middle of the month. Filming concluded on July 14, 2017. For the film's final scene, where Thanos emerges healed in a nipa hut, the filmmakers partnered with Indochina Productions, a studio based in Thailand, to acquire footage of the Banaue Rice Terraces at Ifugao, Philippines.

Later in July 2017, Joe Russo stated there were a couple of unfinished scenes for Infinity War that would be shot "in the next few months". In early March 2018, Disney moved the release of Infinity War in the United States to April 27, 2018, to have it be released the same weekend as some of its international markets. With an estimated budget in the range of $316–400 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever made.

Release

Avengers: Infinity War held its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23, 2018, screening also at the adjacent El Captian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese Theatre. It was released in most countries worldwide, including the United States, on April 27, 2018, with a few debuts beginning as early as April 25, and was shown in IMAX and 3D on select screens. In the United States, the film opened in 4,474 theaters, 408 of which were IMAX; this was the widest release for a Disney title ever and the second-widest ever after Despicable Me 3's 4,529 theaters. Three of AMC Theaters' locations screened the film for 24 hours straight, with 53 of their locations having showtimes at either 2 am or 3 am to accommodate demand. In India, the film had the biggest release ever for a Hollywood film, opening on nearly 2,000 screens in four languages. The film also screened in 515 4DX theaters in 59 countries. It was originally scheduled to be released on May 4, 2018 in the United States. The Chinese release of the film, which opened on May 11, 2018, was originally scheduled to end on June 10, 2018, but was granted a "rare" extension of 30 days, to end on July 9, 2018.

Select footage from the film was screened around various cities during the film's press tour in early April, ahead of the film's Los Angeles premiere. The Russos noted that only a limited amount of the film would be shown at these screenings to reduce the chance of spoilers being leaked. Adam Chitwood of Collider commented that this was "highly unusual as most Marvel movies are screened in their entirety for press about a month before they hit theaters". Ahead of the United States release, AMC Theaters in New York City and Orlando, Florida aired an eleven-MCU film marathon beginning on April 25, leading to a screening of Infinity War. The El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles also had a similar marathon ahead of the film's release.
