Press: Elizabeth Olsen On Accepting Her Destiny As The Scarlet Witch

ZEDISTA: The Portal to the Multiverse is now open, and Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is officially in theaters! 🌀

With the Multiverse unlocked, master of the mystic arts Doctor Strange journeys into the unknown with mystical allies both old and new. One of those allies is fellow Avenger, Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch.

Coming off the heels of last year’s hit sensation, Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, actress Elizabeth Olsen can’t help but be in awe of the woman Wanda Maximoff is now. At a press conference for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earlier this week, Olsen commented, “In the previous films before WandaVision, I took up a lane for storytelling that was more grounded in sincerity, love, loss, grief. And with WandaVision, I got to become anything and everything, and really, really grow [Wanda] into a woman.”

“And leading her to [accept] that she is this mythic woman,” continued Olsen. “That is her destiny. And I hope that in this film people see that continuation of her acceptance of who she is, the journey that she has taken to get to this moment. I feel like she has way more clarity now than ever in this film.”

When posed with the scenario of who would win in a battle between the two sorcerers, Doctor Strange or Scarlet Witch, Olsen cheekily responded, “Well… I think we all know who would win.”

Titular star Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, chimed in, “She’s pretty all-powerful, let’s be honest,” before adding, “Oh, I’ve got an id. I have humility. I can accept that.”

Will it all come to a head in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Head to the theaters and find out now!

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.

Press: Elizabeth Olsen Talks Wanda’s Shocking [SPOILER] in ‘Doctor Strange 2,’ and the Hardest Scene for Her to Play

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot points of Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” currently in theaters. Do not read until you’ve seen the movie.

VARIETY: Practically from the moment that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige announced that Elizabeth Olsen would star in the Disney+ series “WandaVision,” he also made clear that the events of that show would tie into Olsen’s subsequent appearance as Wanda Maximoff in the feature film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

What Feige did not reveal — and what Disney carefully obscured in its marketing for the film right up to its release in theaters — is that Wanda doesn’t show up as Strange’s compatriot in “Multiverse of Madness”: She’s the villain.

At the end of “WandaVision,” Wanda fully accepts her identity as the Scarlet Witch, one of the most powerful wielders of magic in the universe. But she also has to release her grip on the town of Westview to free its citizens of mind control. In doing so, she abandons her children Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne), who can only exist within Wanda’s magic spell over Westview.

Press: Elizabeth Olsen Reveals Why She Gets ‘Feisty’ When People Criticize Marvel Movies

“I’m not saying we’re making indie art films,” Olsen said

HUFFPOST:The Scarlet Witch’s wrath might be deadly, but Elizabeth Olsen says she only gets a “little feisty” when people criticize Marvel movies.

While absolutely nobody needs to feel bad for a studio raking in box-office receipts by the billions, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has attracted a handful of high-profile detractors in recent years, including directors Martin Scorsese, Denis Villeneuve and Jane Campion, who’ve all essentially laid the death of cinema at its feet.

Olsen — who’s appeared in a string of Marvel projects since 2015, including the recent “Doctor Strange” sequel — understands the feedback, but she’s also pushing back against those who make superhero films “seem like a lesser type of art.”

“I’m not saying we’re making indie art films, but I just think it takes away from our crew, which bugs me,” she said in a new interview with The Independent. “These are some of the most amazing set designers, costume designers, camera operators ― I feel diminishing them with that kind of criticism takes away from all the people who do award-winning films, that also work on these projects.”

“From an actor’s point of view, whatever, I get it; I totally understand that there’s a different kind of performance that’s happening,” she continued. “But I do think throwing Marvel under the bus takes away from the hundreds of very talented crew people. That’s where I get a little feisty about that.”

Olsen got her start in a string of critically acclaimed indie films, including her big-screen debut in the 2011 thriller “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” before moving on to big-budget, special-effects-heavy fare.

Her latest Marvel blockbuster, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” arrived in theaters this weekend to the tune of an estimated $185 million in ticket sales, the biggest opening of any film in 2022.

As for whether she’ll return to her roots, Olsen has learned to keep her options open and the haters out of mind, adding that she’s ready to play in the Marvel sandbox again as long as “there’s a good idea attached to it.”

Noting that she initially was only contracted to appear in two movies and a cameo, Olsen said, “It continues to be a surprise when they want to use me for more projects.”

Next up for the actor, however, is a project hailing from an entirely different genre.

Olsen is set to star in “Love and Death,” an upcoming HBO Max limited series from writer and executive producer David E. Kelley about the true and very grisly story of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery, who famously killed her best friend from church with an ax.

Interview/Gallery: The enchanting Elizabeth Olsen

HARPER’S BAZAAR: Elizabeth Olsen is ready for me. In a cosy room of a London hotel, she gets up from her chair to greet me, refreshingly bright-eyed for a Monday morning. She introduces herself warmly as “Lizzie” and asks if I want anything to drink. It’s immediately clear that there aren’t many parallels between her and her antiheroine alias, the Scarlet Witch (also known as Wanda). For one thing, Olsen is very funny; she’s also supremely likeable. But she does hold herself with a certain soft power, today dressed in a grey Barbara Bui suit, an acid-pink knitted rollneck and chunky black lace-up shoes from Clergerie.

“I love playing characters whose actions people disagree with,” she says, tucking her cropped blonde hair behind her ears. “In a world where we don’t really care to understand other points of view, I feel like if we as an audience can have empathy for people we don’t agree with, that’s a good thing.” One of the most powerful figures in the Marvel Universe, Wanda straddles the morally dubious line between good and evil, and this is what interests Olsen about her; the characters she is most drawn to are the complex, knotty ones that need untangling. “Then I can kind of be their lawyer and defend them. I get behind their actions, even if I don’t agree with them,” she explains. She has recently wrapped an HBO series called Love and Death, which follows the true story of Candy Montgomery, who murdered a woman with an axe and acted as though it didn’t happen. “I adored playing her,” she says. “People would ask: ‘Are you going to play her as a sociopath?’ And I was like, ‘No, why would I do that? I’m going to try and understand how someone would be able to compartmentalise this until they were caught.”

Interview/Gallery/Video: Elizabeth Olsen talks about equity in cinema and shows her most sustainable side

This was originally in Spanish and I used Google translate. Hopefully its not too off!

Talented, powerful and one of the most relevant actresses of the moment, Elizabeth Olsen is our cover star for May 2022.

GLAMOUR (MEXICO): Elizabeth Olsen has conquered us not only because of her multifaceted acting career, where she has given us incredible characters like The Scarlet Witch, but also because of her love of altruism, the planet and her great personality that has led her to steal the hearts of everyone; Therefore, this month we talk exclusively with her about her personal life, her dreams, her new projects and her best fashion and beauty tips.

This month we decided to recognize the Hollywood actress with two covers . The first reflects her personal essence, her love and her daily efforts for the planet and the second highlights her public face, the movie star and the importance of women on the screen.

Do you have a dream that you would like to fulfill in the future?

Yes I have a lot. I would love to manifest multiple paths in my life in the future. I don’t think that my life is necessarily to be an actress, there are many things that I would like to explore and I have a long list. To simplify the answer, I dream of having children. That has always been a dream that I have had and it is something that I hope to be able to do.

Can you tell us a little more about your experience with Latitud Project?

It is an amazing project. Some Canadian women who I think went to Mexico with their mothers every summer, ventured to Nicaragua. They started their foundation Latitude Project. In recent years, having a presence in the country has been more difficult, not only because of the COVID pandemic, but also because of the political situation in Nicaragua. Basically they find communities with a lot of need and work with them, ask them about what they need. Be it drinking water, solar energy… and they do a project a year with these communities. They build it with them. I went to bring more awareness to Latitud, but usually they only work with the community and the people there so they can have more autonomy over what they build together. It’s always amazing. I have been with them a few times. Every time, on every project, you meet some very beautiful people and it’s truly amazing how few dollars it takes to change an entire community. It was an amazing experience and I hope to be able to return soon.

Do you have any other plans to practice altruism in the future?

Interview/Gallery: The Marvelous Mrs. Elizabeth Olsen

From home decor to biodiversity, Elizabeth Olsen’s interests are rooted in the glorious nature of the Golden State. Here, the bona fide star of big and small screens tells C about her ambitions beyond the Marvel multiverse

C MAGAZINE: You think you know Elizabeth Olsen. A fixed star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The younger sister of the identical uber-celebrities Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Heart-stoppingly beautiful on any red carpet, charmingly relatable on any talk show, about as close to a natural-born celebrity as you can get, having made her screen debut at age 5 in the Olsen TV movie, How the West Was Fun.

And yet nothing about Elizabeth Olsen is quite as you expect. A few minutes into a conversation that was supposed to have something to do with the new Doctor Strange movie in which she stars, we have somehow moved on to the evils of pesticides and the importance of cover crops. Yes, Hollywood is all very well, but Olsen still dreams of studying agriculture and starting a progressive farmstead.

“We just eloped. Traditions aren’t very important to me”

The photos are appearing slowly but I wanted to post what was available now. I will continue to post the rest as they appear.

Marvel Studios Disables Social Media Comments Ahead of Doctor Strange 2 Premiere

COMICBOOK: We’re in the endgame now. Marvel Studios has disabled social media comments to curb spoilers as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness screens in full ahead of its May 6 release only in theaters. Marvel’s Doctor Strange sequel will host its red carpet world premiere live from Hollywood tonight at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT, giving attendees the first look at Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) mind-bending trip through the Multiverse. To keep the film’s major cameos and surprises under wraps, the official @MarvelStudios account has gone dark with a message posted to Twitter: “See you on the other side of the Multiverse. Replies will now be disabled.”

“Find out in a theater. Not online,” reads @MarvelStudios’ temporary social media bio. “Replies disabled.”

Marvel Studios’ nearly 10 million followers are currently unable to respond to tweets from @MarvelStudios or the official @DoctorStrange account, a tactic to prevent rogue leaks or spoilers from appearing in the comments. Marvel famously issued an official spoiler warning for Avengers: Endgame with the hashtag #DontSpoilTheEndgame.

Last month, an insider claimed Multiverse of Madness has “more big surprises” than the spoiler-filled Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home — combined. Disney has so far screened only the first 20 minutes of the Sam Raimi Marvel movie for press ahead of the world premiere in Hollywood.

Official promos from Marvel Studios have already confirmed some of the multiversal cameos and appearances in store for Doctor Strange 2 — spoiler warning — including a live-action Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), a variant Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), and X-Men leader Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) of the MCU Illuminati.

The first Doctor Strange 2 social media reactions will release online following Monday’s premiere. Reviews will publish Tuesday, May 3.

In Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Wong), and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange.
