Press: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Removed From Disney Plus’ August Release Slot

THE DIRECT – Marvel Studio was set to start Phase Four with a bang, not just with their initial 2020 films Black Widow and The Eternals, but also with television shows produced exclusively for Disney+. The first Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, was set to release in August 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic stopped production in its tracks in early March.

While the series has been recently gearing up to complete filming, the likelihood that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would be able to meet their release date was becoming more and more uncertain. Now, a new report seems to confirm the inevitable news.

NEWS
According to a report from Laughing Place, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was not on the list of titles coming to Disney+ in August 2020. While Walt Disney Studios has yet to make an official statement concerning The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it is expected that the show will not meet its initial August release window for the streaming service.

WHAT THIS MEANS
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier still needed to finish filming for a few days in the Czech Republic and in Atlanta, Georgia as well. While it’s unfortunate to see the show’s release officially be delayed, it was not a surprising outcome given that the series had yet to wrap principal photography.

It’s likely that the other Disney+ shows like WandaVision and Loki will also see some delays, as the Disney+ slate gets pushed back in the same way Marvel Studios’ film slate did back in April. This will give every series all the necessary time to finish filming and post-production, without having to be tied to a quickly approaching release window.

Delaying the Disney+ shows would also be necessary for the MCU’s timeline, given that the shows were created with the intentions of both affecting and being affected by the events of the films. Marvel Studios plans everything out to a tee, and while it may be a few more months before fans can see these highly-anticipated shows, there’s no doubt it will all pay off in the end.

Press: ’WandaVision’ to Reportedly Resume Filming in July

DISNEY INSIDER – After Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series WandaVision was moved up to December 2020, the series hit a major snag, as did the rest of Hollywood due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Major film and television productions are slowly been given the green light to restart production again. According to a Facebook post by Tampa Bay Comic Con, Paul Bettany had to cancel his appearance due to being called back to resume WandaVision filming in July, the cast and crew had a wrap party back in March, but work still needs to be done, which includes reshoots.

“We finally received word from Paul Bettany’s representation, and unfortunately Paul had to cancel his appearance at TBCC this year due being called back by Disney for WandaVision filming in July, in Los Angeles. We’re working on guest additions!”

The studio has been working on post-production during the Hollywood shut down. If work indeed continues on small shoots in July, that would mean the series could still hit it’s December 2020 release.

Bettany reprises the role of Vision and Elizabeth Olsen returns to her role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, as they become the perfect married 50’s, nuclear family.

Teyonah Parris will also appear on the series as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, who was introduced to audiences in Captain Marvel. Kathryn Hahn is playing a nosey neighbor reportedly named Agatha. Josh Stamberg will also appear alongside Randall Park as secret agents.

According to recent reports Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch was on set for the last week of filming for WandaVision, which lines up with another story reported stating longtime Doctor Strange villain Nightmare would be the antagonist for the series, as well as Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige previously stating the film will lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Earlier this week, A report surfaced that Evan Peters (American Horror Story) joined the series last summer in an unknown but a key role and shot his scenes towards the end of last year. Fans are now speculating what his role could be; the popular but least likely guess is Wanda’s brother Pietro aka Quicksilver, a role he played in Fox’s X-Men universe and was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The series is also rumored to have shot in front of a live studio audience, and will pay homage to the multi-camera sitcom comedies throughout television history, including I Love Lucy.

WandaVision is expected to make its debut on Disney+ later this year.

Press: Marvel gives first looks at WandaVision Disney+ series during Super Bowl

THE VERGE: Marvel Studios used its big Super Bowl advertising spot to quickly tease three upcoming Disney+ series: Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, and WandaVision.

There wasn’t much footage from any of the series, but there was enough glimpses to tease fans. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Anthony Mackie’s Sam “Falcon” Wilson pick up Captain America’s shield and maneuver around with it. The series picks up where that arc ended, as Steve Rogers’ best friends try to navigate a world he’s no longer in. The show brings back Mackie’s Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky “Winter Soldier” Barnes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Endgame ended with Steve Rogers handing over his Captain America shield to Sam. The teaser also showed a glimpse of Zemo’s return, the villain made famous in Captain America: Civil War.

WandaVision’s footage showed off scenes of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany’s Vision interacting with each other in a house. The show was previously teased at Disney’s biennial D23 convention as a surreal sitcom-like take on their relationship. Loki had the least amount of footage, but showed actor Tom Hiddleston back in the role.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is one of two big Marvel series hitting Disney+ this year. The company previously announced that WandaVision would receive a 2020 release date, moving up from its original 2021 window. Both WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier will tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Much like what The Mandalorian was to Lucasfilm, all eyes will be on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Marvel’s first big Disney+ series. Since Disney has launched Disney+, big changes behind-the-scenes have shed light on how important the integration between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the TV shows will be going forward. Kevin Feige, the visionary behind the MCU, now oversees all of Marvel Entertainment. Prior to the Disney+ launch, Jeph Loeb oversaw the various Marvel shows on various Disney networks, and streaming services like Hulu and Netflix. That changed late last year.

Now, Feige oversees everything Marvel, both cinematically and on the TV side. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be joined by the aforementioned WandaVision this year, followed by Loki, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moonknight in the coming years.

Press: ‘Sorry for Your Loss,’ ‘Limetown’ Canceled at Facebook Watch

Sad news!!! I hope they find another network to pick up the series!

The social media giant is scaling back on the number of scripted series for its streaming platform.

DEADLINE – Facebook Watch is paring back on scripted series, canceling Limetown after a single season and Sorry for Your Loss after two.

The moves come as the social media giant is paring back on scripted shows for its streaming platform, which have had some trouble breaking through despite critical acclaim for Sorry for Your Loss and generally positive notices for Limetown. Scripted series already ordered — including the third season of Real Bros of Simi Valley and Blumhouse’s Sacred Lies, which is set to premiere Feb. 20 — will still run on Facebook Watch, but the streamer will redouble its efforts in unscripted programming.

The Jada Pinkett Smith-hosted Red Table Talk has earned a Daytime Emmy nomination and regularly racks up 5 million or more views, per the company’s public stats (like other streamers, Facebook Watch doesn’t release detailed viewer data). The service’s unscripted offerings also include Returning the Favor starring Mike Rowe, the docuseries 9 Months With Courteney Cox and the talker Steve on Watch with Steve Harvey, which debuted Jan. 6.

Based on a narrative podcast of the same name, Limetown stars Jessica Biel as a journalist investigating a mass disappearance at a neuroscience research facility. Biel also executive produced the series along with her Iron Ocean partner Michelle Purple, podcast creators Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie and Midnight Radio’s Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

Sorry for Your Loss stars Elizabeth Olsen as a young widow who is trying to rebuild her life following her husband’s death. She also exec produced alongside creator Kit Steinkellner, Robin Lizzy Weiss, James Ponsoldt, Marc Turtletaub, Peter Saraf, Cynthia Pett, Brad Petrigala and Jon Liebman.

Facebook Watch’s retrenchment in unscripted somewhat mirrors that of YouTube, which scaled down its scripted offerings as it switched from a premium to an ad-supported model for original programming. Both companies sought to leverage their massive user bases for original programming, but with a handful of exceptions, those shows had a hard time breaking through in the Peak TV era.

Deadline first reported the news.

Press: Paul Bettany’s Vision May Star in ‘Scarlet Witch’ Series on Disney’s Streaming Service

COLLIDER – On the heels of yesterday’s news that Disney’s upcoming streaming service would be featuring a Winter Soldier/Falcon-focused limited TV series, it looks like the previously announced Scarlet Witch standalone series will be a two-hander. Longtime MCU player Paul Bettany, who has been the voice of JARVIS since 2008’s Iron Man before getting to appear on screen in the artificial flesh as the superheroic android Vision, is now expected to join Elizabeth Olsen in the streaming series.

/Film reports that Bettany will have a significant part to play in the Scarlet Witch limited series in a narrative that will likely focus on the relationship between Vision and Wanda Maximoff before the arrival of Thanos and his dusty fingers. Like the Tom Hiddleston-starring Loki series and the previously mentioned Winter Soldier/Falcon show, Scarlet Witch is expected to be six to eight episodes long and won’t be connected to either the Netflix Marvel TV universe or that of Disney’s broadcast banner, ABC. Production of the streaming series will be handled by Marvel Studios and not Marvel Television, bringing blockbuster-like budgets to each focused, limited season.

Not much more information is available on any of the MCU TV series, except for the fact that Empire writer Malcolm Spellman will write the limited series centering on Falcon and Winter Solidier. We should expect further confirmation from Disney proper once they’ve got their marketing machine all revved up and ready to go with official cast confirmations, title reveals, release dates, and more. Disney’s not alone in trying to get their many-headed streaming service up and available to the masses, but they might just be the furthest along the track in the quest to dethrone Netflix.

EW

Leigh (Elizabeth Olsen) is trying to move on.

In Facebook Watch’s Sorry For Your Loss, Olsen (who also serves as an executive producer) plays a young widow who, following the sudden death of her husband, finds her life — and every relationship in it — changed by the event. Written and created by playwright Kit Steinkellner (Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything), the half-hour drama also stars Kelly Marie Tran (in her first role since joining the Star Wars franchise), Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers), Mamoudou Athie (Unicorn Store), and Janet McTeer (Marvel’s Jessica Jones). The Avengers: Infinity War alum stars as Leigh Shaw, who struggles to live without her husband, Matt (Mamoudou Athie). But don’t call her weak: Leigh is tough and fierce (and sometimes admittedly judgmental). She knows she can be resilient, but grief complicates her already complicated life.

Press: Behind the Scenes of Avengers: Infinity War’s Crushing Finale

E! NEWS – Still reeling from the final moments in Avengers: Infinity War?

E! News has an exclusive look at Paul Bettany, Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, Chris Evans, Danai Gurira, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen and Sebastian Stan filming the devastating finale, culminating in—spoiler alert!—Thanos activating the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping his fingers, wiping out half the galaxy’s population.

Black Panther? Bye. Groot? Gone. Spider-Man? See ya.

The final battle occurs after Thanos goes on a smash and grab across the universe to collect all six Infinity Stones, giving him unparalleled power. The Mind Stone is embedded in Vision’s forehead, bringing Thanos to Wakanda—where the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and a host of other superheroes are preparing to fight him to the death. “When Thanos shows up, we really wanted to make this the most powerful moment ever,” executive producer Trinh Tran says in a bonus featurette (included on the digital and Blu-ray editions of the blockbuster). Of course, deciding which heroes would vanish was a challenge. “In terms of our choices about who Thanos would end up eradicating with his snap, it was very story-focused. How do we pay off each individual character’s storyline most profoundly?” co-director Anthony Russo asks. “The first person to go is Bucky Barnes, and it’s shot from Captain America’s perspective.”

Press: “Avengers: Infinity War” Trailer Assembles Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes

CNN – Marvel’s Avengers have taken on aliens, robots and even each other. If the latest trailer for the Disney studio’s new superhero movie is any indication of what’s next, they are about to take on their greatest foe yet: Thanos.

The imposing (and quite purple) space villain flexes his muscles in film’s new trailer, which premiered on Friday morning. The preview includes your standard Marvel comic book action mixed with comedy, but Thanos’ looming presence sets the scene what what appears to be a major battle on the horizon.

“The entire time I knew him he only ever had one goal: To wipe out half the universe,” Zoe Saldana’s Gamora is heard saying in the trailer. “If gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with the snap of his fingers. Just like that.”

“Tell me his name again,” Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man asks.

Gamora responds in a whisper, “Thanos.”

The two-minute trailer, which has racked up close to a million views on YouTube in less than three hours, features nearly every hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes the crew in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

A bearded Captain America is seen taking on Thanos in hand-to-hand combat, Spider-Man is swinging through debris, and Thor finds his head nearly being crushed by the villain. The glimpses of our heroes in peril led some fans online to fear that some Marvel characters may not make it out of alive.

Marvel Studios’ latest hero, Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, is featured prominently in the new trailer.

“Black Panther” has been one of Marvel’s biggest and most critically acclaimed hits since it opened last month. The film, which is the first Marvel project directed by an African-American, broke records on its opening weekend at the box office and has made more than $1.1 billion worldwide.

“Avengers: Infinity War” looks to be the one of the biggest films Marvel has ever produced, which is saying something since the brand has had 18 straight number one openings and has grossed more than $14.5 billion globally.
