Press: Proof Disney Is Retconning the MCU Now That They Own X-Men?

It looks like Marvel Studios might be setting up Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to have been mutants this whole time.

MOVIE WEB – It’s beginning to look like Disney and Marvel Studios are starting to retcon the Marvel Cinematic Universe to introduce the X-Men and other mutants. The Wakanda Files: A Technological Exploration of the Avengers and Beyond book was just released this week and it has been shedding a lot of light on the MCU and some of its lesser-known secrets, including why Tony Stark made the Iron Spider suit for Peter Parker and what Shuri has been up to since the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.

Now, it appears that The Wakanda Files is setting up that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have been mutants this whole time. Both characters made their MCU debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, at a time when Fox still had the rights to their Marvel properties, including the X-Men. This meant that the words “mutant” or “X-gene” could not be included within the MCU. So, the powers of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were explained in another way.

In Age of Ultron, exposure to the Mind Stone in Loki’s scepter was the reasoning that Marvel Studios gave as to how Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver received their powers. HYDRA’s Baron von Strucker referred to them as “Miracles.” In The Wakanda Files, Baron von Strucker refers to “appropriate genetic markers [that] make them conducive for human trial volunteers.” In a separate part of the book, Dr. List wonders why “other subjects failed and perished,” when compared to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. He begins to theorize that it was their “shared abhorrence for Tony Stark and all that he represents.” However, now many are wondering if their mutant powers were there this whole time and were just waiting to be unlocked.

The term “latent” is often used in Marvel Comics to discuss the powers of different mutants becoming awakened. This could be how the MCU slowly works mutants into their stories over time. The Wakanda Files seems to provide a subtle hint that the word “mutant” is going to start being used in the MCU, which could provide a straight path to a new team of X-Men, which is something Marvel fans have been wanting since 2008, when everything kicked off with Iron Man. However, there could be one more major hint arriving by the end of this year.

WandaVision is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime before January. So far, it looks like a bizarre fever dream of Wanda Maximoff’s where Vision is still alive, as they go in and out of classic sitcoms. Could mutants be introduced in the upcoming MCU show? For now, a lot of comic book fans are wondering if the series could be the project to bridge the gap between the Fox properties and their new home at Disney. None of this has been officially confirmed, but the Wakanda Files seems to be hinting at the future. You can head over to Quartoknows Publishing to get more information about The Wakanda Files.

Added Off the Menu founder Lawrence Longo: “We know that food can act as a way to connect and educate people. We’re thrilled to be able to create an event like America’s Sweetest that will allow us to raise money for EBMRF while putting together a ‘care package’ that any food lover and especially those with a sweet tooth will obsess over.”

Imagined by Off The Menu, the initiative follows its Burger Showdown and Wing Showdown competitions held over the summer. As part of America’s Sweetest, Off the Menu will host videos from each celebrity participant on its website and platform. More information about the initiative can be found here

Video: FINALLY- WandaVision Trailer & Key Art

COMIC BOOK – Currently, WandaVision does not yet have a release date. While the series likely won’t be arriving until sometime in December, it was included in a Disney+ trailer last week showcasing the upcoming titles set to arrive on the platform still this year and both the new trailer and this new key art is very exciting for fans, especially considering how much flux entertainment — particularly Marvel offerings — has been in this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, production on WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki were all shut down due to the pandemic, though production on the series reportedly resumed earlier this month.

WandaVision will likely feel much different than previous Marvel Studios projects, considering just how strange its concepts appear to be. Paul Bettany, who plays Vision in the MCU, said earlier this year that the show is

“Yes, I’m back for WandaVision… I am such an admirer of Kevin Feige, he has taken such a risk with the show, and the concept of this show. It’s beautifully written by [Jac Schaeffer] and her staff of writers – and it is f-cking bonkers,” Bettany said. “I mean it’s so out there and nuts, the choices that they are making. And fans will not have to wait that much longer… they’ll much more of an insight, very, very, soon as to what it may look and feel like.”

You can check out the official synopsis for WandaVision below.

“Marvel Studios’ ‘WandaVision’ blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The new series is directed by Matt Shakman; Jac Schaeffer is head writer. Debuts on Disney+ this year.”

Press: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Removed From Disney Plus’ August Release Slot

THE DIRECT – Marvel Studio was set to start Phase Four with a bang, not just with their initial 2020 films Black Widow and The Eternals, but also with television shows produced exclusively for Disney+. The first Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, was set to release in August 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic stopped production in its tracks in early March.

While the series has been recently gearing up to complete filming, the likelihood that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would be able to meet their release date was becoming more and more uncertain. Now, a new report seems to confirm the inevitable news.

NEWS
According to a report from Laughing Place, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was not on the list of titles coming to Disney+ in August 2020. While Walt Disney Studios has yet to make an official statement concerning The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it is expected that the show will not meet its initial August release window for the streaming service.

WHAT THIS MEANS
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier still needed to finish filming for a few days in the Czech Republic and in Atlanta, Georgia as well. While it’s unfortunate to see the show’s release officially be delayed, it was not a surprising outcome given that the series had yet to wrap principal photography.

It’s likely that the other Disney+ shows like WandaVision and Loki will also see some delays, as the Disney+ slate gets pushed back in the same way Marvel Studios’ film slate did back in April. This will give every series all the necessary time to finish filming and post-production, without having to be tied to a quickly approaching release window.

Delaying the Disney+ shows would also be necessary for the MCU’s timeline, given that the shows were created with the intentions of both affecting and being affected by the events of the films. Marvel Studios plans everything out to a tee, and while it may be a few more months before fans can see these highly-anticipated shows, there’s no doubt it will all pay off in the end.

Press: ’WandaVision’ to Reportedly Resume Filming in July

DISNEY INSIDER – After Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series WandaVision was moved up to December 2020, the series hit a major snag, as did the rest of Hollywood due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Major film and television productions are slowly been given the green light to restart production again. According to a Facebook post by Tampa Bay Comic Con, Paul Bettany had to cancel his appearance due to being called back to resume WandaVision filming in July, the cast and crew had a wrap party back in March, but work still needs to be done, which includes reshoots.

“We finally received word from Paul Bettany’s representation, and unfortunately Paul had to cancel his appearance at TBCC this year due being called back by Disney for WandaVision filming in July, in Los Angeles. We’re working on guest additions!”

The studio has been working on post-production during the Hollywood shut down. If work indeed continues on small shoots in July, that would mean the series could still hit it’s December 2020 release.

Bettany reprises the role of Vision and Elizabeth Olsen returns to her role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, as they become the perfect married 50’s, nuclear family.

Teyonah Parris will also appear on the series as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, who was introduced to audiences in Captain Marvel. Kathryn Hahn is playing a nosey neighbor reportedly named Agatha. Josh Stamberg will also appear alongside Randall Park as secret agents.

According to recent reports Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch was on set for the last week of filming for WandaVision, which lines up with another story reported stating longtime Doctor Strange villain Nightmare would be the antagonist for the series, as well as Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige previously stating the film will lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Earlier this week, A report surfaced that Evan Peters (American Horror Story) joined the series last summer in an unknown but a key role and shot his scenes towards the end of last year. Fans are now speculating what his role could be; the popular but least likely guess is Wanda’s brother Pietro aka Quicksilver, a role he played in Fox’s X-Men universe and was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The series is also rumored to have shot in front of a live studio audience, and will pay homage to the multi-camera sitcom comedies throughout television history, including I Love Lucy.

WandaVision is expected to make its debut on Disney+ later this year.
