Press: Spirit Awards: ‘Ingrid Goes West’ Wins Best First Feature

The black comedy took home the award on Saturday.

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – Ingrid Goes West won the award for best first feature at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which were handed out Saturday in Santa Monica.

The film beat out fellow nominees Columbus, Menashe, Oh Lucy! and Patti Cake$.

Director Matt Spicer accepted the award alongside the cast and crew. “All these people on stage made this movie happen. But rather than list a bunch of people, I just wanted to dedicate this award to one person in particular, and that is [star] Aubrey Plaza,” he said. “Casting Aubrey in this movie was the best decision I ever made as a director.”

Ingrid Goes West follows Ingrid Thorburn (Plaza), a woman who flees Pennsylvania for Los Angeles to befriend Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen), a socialite who just so happens to be Ingrid’s latest obsession. Jared Ian Goldman, Aubrey Plaza, Tim White, Trevor White, Adam Mirels and Robert Mirels produced the film.

The 33rd Film Independent Spirit Awards took place in a tent next to the Santa Monica Pier and aired on IFC on Saturday, March 3. Nick Kroll and John Mulraney returned as hosts for the second year in a row.

Press: Is An All-Female Marvel Superhero Movie In The Future?

/FILM – For years, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been calling for a solo movie centered on Black Widow, the ass-kicking super spy played by Scarlett Johansson. And while there have been a lot of vague claims of support from the people in charge at Marvel, we’ve yet to see her suit up for her own film.

But now there may be a film on the horizon that focuses on all of the prominent women characters in the MCU, not just Black Widow. Read Marvel Studios president and mega-producer Kevin Feige‘s comments about the possibility of an all-female Marvel movie below.

io9 was at a recent press conference for Thor: Ragnarok, where Ragnarok actress Tessa Thompson – who plays the sword-wielding Valkyrie in that movie – told a story about how she led a charge that Valkyrie herself would have been proud of:

“Recently, I marched up with a couple of other women that work in Marvel and we went to Kevin, ‘What about a movie with some female super heroes? Like all of them?’”

Feige jumped in to reveal what happened:

“It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder get tapped and turn around every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’”

“She gobbled that jibby-jabber”. Avengers star Olsen struggles with very rude Scots slang

DEADLINE NEWS – A HILARIOUS video has captured Avengers actress Elizabeth Olsen struggling to pronounce very rude Scottish slang.

In the side-splitting clip, uploaded by fellow actress Jade Olivia Gordon, Olsen can be seen reading the list of phrases – including “baws” – from a screen and cracking up laughing.

Olsen is in Scotland filming the latest Avengers film, and has clearly taken the opportunity to get familiar with the local dialect.

At the start of the minute-long video, the actress can be seen saying: “She gobbled that jibby-jabber” before laughing uncontrollably.

After a few seconds, she looks down at her phone and says “baws – that’s testicles.” She then repeats “baws” again before sniggering at the sound of the word.

Olsen’s pronunciation of the words comes out more like “bozz”.

Aubrey Plaza Loses Her Mind in ‘Ingrid Goes West’ Trailer

VARIETY – Aubrey Plaza goes insane in a raucous red-band trailer for the dark comedy “Ingrid Goes West,” which shows her crashing a wedding and pepper-spraying the bride, played by Elizabeth Olsen, for not inviting her.

The trailer depicts Plaza’s character Ingrid Thornberg reacting to her mother’s death and a series of self-inflicted setbacks by moving out West to befriend her Instagram obsession Taylor Sloane (played by Olsen). After a quick bond is forged between these unlikeliest of friends, the facade begins to crack in both women’s lives.

“Ingrid Goes West” is directed by Matt Spicer and written by Spicer and David Branson Smith. The film, which also stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Wyatt Russell, and Billy Magnussen, premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

Variety‘s Peter Debruge praised Plaza’s performance in his Sundance review: “A semi-ironic, yet still-empathetic ‘Single White Female’ for the Facebook generation, Spicer’s squirm-inducing directorial debut understands both the pleasures and frustrations of judging one’s worth via virtual connections. If positioned correctly, it’s the sort of timely satire that could click with younger audiences — and further bolster Aubrey Plaza’s value in the title role.”

Producers are Jared Ian Goldman, Tim White, Trevor White, Adam Mirels, Robert Mirels, and Plaza. Neon picked up the rights at Sundance and has set an Aug. 4 release.
